Hundreds of thousands of spectators flocked to Jones Beach to watch the New York Air Show over Memorial Day weekend. The Air Show was sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
This year the U.S. Air Force graced the skies in F-16s, performing a demonstration sequence that consisted of a series of formation aerobatics. This precision demonstration team treated local residents to fly bys and tricks the week before the actual Air Show, as they were based out of Republic Airport in Farmingdale.
The Snowbirds Demonstration Team (431 Squadron), a Canadian icon comprised of serving members of the Canadian Forces, also flew in the Air Show.
Spectators also saw the return of the B-17, “Yankee Lady”, the pride of the Yankee Air Museum. Flight experiences are available aboard this magnificent flying fortress by contacting the AAM public affairs office at 212-843-8010.

The World famous GEICO Skytypers Air Show Team, a proud flight squadron of six vintage World War II airplanes, performed above the ocean. According to their website, skytyping utilizes five airplanes that fly abreast, 250-feet apart and “type” up to 25-30 character messages in a dot-matrix-like pattern. Additionally, the U.S. Army Golden Knights, a parachuting team, NY Air National Guard Search and Rescue Team and F/A-18 Super Hornet Demo Team performed stunts and provided entertainment, as well as several civilian pilots.
