The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that on Monday, July 13 Jones Beach State Park is hosting the Junior Lifeguard Tournament. This is the sixth year that this prestigious tournament will be held at Jones Beach State Park.
Approximately 400 children, from the tri-state area, will participate in teams in four age divisions (ages 9-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17). The tournament will take place at the ocean front of the East Bathhouse – Field #5. Each division will compete in the following seven categories: Beach Run, Rescue Race, Paddleboard, Distance Swim, Run-Swim-Run, Beach Flags, and Ocean Swim Relay.
Viewers are welcome to watch this exciting tournament. The first event will begin at 10 a.m. and the last event is scheduled to start at approximately 4:30 p.m. Jones Beach State Park is located in Wantagh and can be reached via the Meadowbrook, Wantagh or Ocean Parkways.
