Ice skating is a fun winter activity, and also a great exercise! For Town of Oyster Bay residents, the ice skating season will start the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 27, at the Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa) and Syosset-Woodbury Community Park ice rinks, according to Town Supervisor John Venditto.
“The 2009-2010 ice skating season will run through the end of February 2010, weather permitting,” Supervisor John Venditto stated. “Town residents can, once again, enjoy this popular winter sport for the same low general admission rates they’ve paid for the last nine years, as the town has held the line on fees since 2000.”
General admission for two-hour public skating sessions at all rinks will be $3 for ages five through 17; $4 for ages 18 and older; and $1 for senior citizens 60 and older, volunteer firefighters and auxiliary police with identification. Children under four will be admitted free. The skating shop will be open during all public sessions for the purpose of renting skates at $3 per pair per session. Special discount books consisting of 10 tickets will also be available. A book of 10 tickets for adults ages 18 and older will cost only $25 and, for children ages 17 and under, a discount book will be priced at $20. In addition, ice rinks may be rented by groups for $175 for the first hour, $87.50 for each additional half hour and $43.75 for each additional quarter hour or portion thereafter. Charters will be available when public sessions are not scheduled. Requests for group charters must be made in writing to the town’s parks department.
Venditto added that the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at Bethpage Community Park, features a year-round, indoor ice rink. For information on that facility, visit www.oysterbaytown.com or call the rink at 433-RINK (7465).
“Remember the good old days when the cold weather meant going ice skating?” said the supervisor. “Ice skating can bring back some great memories, so why not create some new memories with your kids…or grandkids…and enjoy ice skating together at one of the town’s skating facilities.”
