TV Land has announced that the cast of the popular late-70s TV show “Welcome Back, Kotter” will reunite this year at the TV Land Awards on April 17.
The network is bringing back the cast to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the show.
The highlight of the returnees is movie legend John Travolta, who played the wise guy known as Vincent Barbarino in the show.
The reunion will also bring back Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, who played Freddie “Boom-Boom” Washington, Ron Palillo, who played Arnold Horseshack, and Marcia Strassman, who played Mrs. Kotter.
For fans of the show, though, one very important name is missing from the reunion.
Gabe Kaplan, who played the teacher Gabe Kotter, is not scheduled to be in the reunion.
The show was based off of Kaplan’s time in high school, and all of the characters of the show are based off of friends from his high school days.
Teaching a group of students known as the “Sweathogs”, Kaplan’s character was the lead role of the show that ran from 1975-1979.
TV Land did not release a statement about Kaplan’s absence from the reunion, but the network did say that other characters from the show would be in the reunion, and that more “announcements” about who would be there are on the way.
The TV Land Awards will air on April 17 at 9 p.m.
