deathcabforcutieDeath Cab For Cutie
In a new Spin article, Death Cab frontman Ben Gibbard confessed to embracing sobriety in 2008. Not surprisingly, he’s quite pleased that the band’s new album Codes and Keys is “a more even emotional palette than Narrow Stairs was.” Inspired by his marriage to actress Zooey Deschanel, Gibbard has transferred this bliss over to a less guitar-centric and more upbeat batch of songs sure to contrast Narrow Stairs being Death Cab’s “most depressing record.” WED 6.1, Bowery Ballroom

The Go-Go’s @ Central Park
Out commemorating the 30th anniversary of their 1981 debut Beauty and the Beat, it’s amazing to realize that the Go-Go’s only recorded two more albums in the ensuing three years before cutting the 2001 comeback record, God Bless the Go-Go’s. Meanwhile, guitarist Jane Wiedlin promises the band might just have some new material to play during the shows that make up the Girls Gone Wild Tour. (Also 6.7 @ NYCB Theatre @ Westbury)

Stiff Little Fingers
Oftentimes referred to as the “Irish Clash,” SLF has often been overshadowed by Joe Strummer and company along with a number of other peers including The Alarm and The Jam. Still kicking around after a five-year breakup in the 1980s, Stiff Little Fingers have soldiered on. With this most recent date, local diehard punk fans get a chance to witness history and find out if the band’s long-awaited tenth studio album is any closer to getting completed following the 2007 announcement that the band had started working on it. sunThe Script @ Rumsey Playfield Central Park
As you’d expect from a group that emerged from the ashes of a boy-band and has worked with contemporary R&B producers Teddy Riley and Rodney Jerkins, Irish pop trio The Script has a feel for the pop culture zeitgeist. And while the trio has had its music pop up on tween-friendly shows like 90210, The Vampire Diaries and The Hills, The Script has also parlayed its MOR-flavored sound onto high profile tours opening for Paul McCartney and U2.

Black Label Society
Even though metal fans have long been aware of the guitar-playing might and intimidating build of ex-Ozzy axe-slinger Zakk Wylde, American Idol fans were given quite the visual shock when he was tapped for six-string duty alongside finalist James Durban during a surreal reading of Sammy Hagar’s “Heavy Metal.” As the headliner for Fuse’s Uranium Tour, fans might be surprised to see the long-haired Yankees fan pull out an acoustic given the recent release of The Song is Not the Same, essentially an unplugged version of the preceding Order of the Black. all time lowAll Time Low @ Looney Tunes
Cribbing its name from the lyrics the New Found Glory song “Head on Collision,” All Time Low has spent the past decade going from pop-punk indie imprints to finally landing a major label deal in November 2009. And while fortune has smiled on the band that included landing a song on the soundtrack to the Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland, they’ve been banned from playing Six Flags parks around the country after the group objected to staff using pepper spray on the crow at a concert in the Arlington, Texas amusement park.

Bedouin Soundclash @ Mercury Lounge
Despite its exotic name, Bedouin Soundclash actually hails from Toronto. With its sound firmly rooted at the nexus of ska and reggae, it should come as no surprise that the trio landed a deal with Los Angeles-based punk imprint SideOneDummy Records and that the band has a longstanding creative relationship with Bad Brains bassist Daryl Jenifer.

A frequent participant in the VH-1 reality shows Celebrity Rehab and Sober House thanks to a lifelong struggle with drug addiction, Adler is apparently on the road to sobriety. While Adler is scheduling a July press conference to announce his group landing “a big television show and major record deal,” he’s on the road with a band that includes Enuff Z’Nuff bassist Chip Z’Nuff rounding out the Adler’s Appetite rhythm section.

LongIslandFestLong Island Fest
The old Long Island Hardcore scene has been enjoying something of a revival recently—peaking with a March show including some of the scene’s most beloved vets, Glassjaw, Mind Over Matter and Vision of Disorder. But Long Island Fest blows that one out of the water. Featuring three days of music at two venues the Fest brings back the likes of Tripface, Mind Over Matter, Most Precious Blood, skycamefalling and dozens more. But it’s not an exercise in nostalgia: The bills are packed with new bands, too, including new projects from some of the scene’s vets (such as Primitive Weapons and I Am the Avalanche). As the festival’s organizers succinctly put it on the Long Island Fest Facebook page, “Don’t bitch about your own scene if you’re not doing anything to try to make it better….get involved!” Getting involved starts here. FRI 6.10-6.12, Bergen Point Country Club, West Babylon; Sinai Reform Temple, Bay Shore

Robert Klein
Neither bitter nor cynical, Klein made his mark on stand-up comedy with his wry, observational style. Twenty-five years after he debuted his hilarious take on his generation’s cultural touchstones with the album Child of the Fifties, echoes of Klein could be heard in all the top comics of the day, most notably Jerry Seinfeld. FRI 6.10, The Brokerage
