The Girls U12 Hicksville Dynamite defeated the East Meadow Pumas in the Massapequa Memorial Day Tournament final, capping off a tournament win that many considered unexpected.
It started when the Hicksville Dynamite played the first day against the Gotham Girls FC Magic and won 3-1. The second game that day was a disappointment, when the Dynamite were defeated by the Great Neck Jaguars, a team in a lower division.
Hicksville made the playoffs due to the fact that they finished second in their division, but went in as the heavy underdogs. The Monroe Woodbury Thunder dominated its group and drew the Dynamite in the semifinals. Shockingly, the Hicksville Dynamite won on a golden goal in overtime 2-1, sending them to the final against East Meadow. On a free kick in the first half, Hicksville scored the only goal of the game, and thanks to some great defense, the Dynamite held onto the lead, finishing off the tournament in first place.
As of June 7, Hicksville is tied for fourth place in division 4 in the Long Island Junior Soccer League. Check lijslsoccer.com for information on their current ranking.
