On April 12, after just one practice, HBA’s 7/8-year-old Rangers baseball team took to the field for their first game of the season.
Unfortunately their first game was not victorious and neither were the next three, but after weeks of practicing, this once losing team turned their season around and won their first game on April 27 and went on to win the next 13 out of 14 games of the season. With three dominating pitchers in Jordan Ramlogan, Timmy Malony and Jeromy Poveda and two strong catchers in Daniel O’Connell and Jeffery Schlick, runs against and stolen bases were held to a minimum.
Defensively the battle involved much strategy and offensively the bats were hot and the eyes while at bat were great. The small stature of the 7-year-old players Jonathan Clingen, Jack McDonough, Trevor Perez and Angelo Soplin made for a tough strike zone allowing them to frequently reach base on a walk and use their little legs to steal the bases and score some runs when the team’s home run hitters, Jordan Ramlogan, Jeromy Poveda, Tyler Krom-Power and Sebastian Antoine, came to bat.
Baseball is a team sport and as a team these boys came together to win two rounds of playoffs before being defeated in the championship game on Friday, June 24 ending their season in second place with a record of 15-6. All are so proud of each one of these players, congratulations on a great season!
