In the wake of Kim Jong Il’s death, “Team America” started trending.
Many are wondering why the movie would be trending and how it relates to the late North Korean leader, but others make the connection instantly.
Kim first came to power back in 1994 when his father and the founder of North Korea, Kim Il Sung died.
Over time, he became well known for his constant threat of nuclear weapons but almost right away, he became known for his appearance, sporting large glasses, elevator shoes and a signature hairstyle.
Naturally, Kim was the perfect addition to “Team America: World Police,” a movie that follows a counter-terrorism organization and features a few notable terrorists.
Kim became a prominent character in most of the scenes of the 2004 film “Team America: World Police,” according to CBS. Kim Jong Il even had his own solo in the movie—He sings ‘Im so lonely’ in one scene.
The movie by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, follows popular Broadway actor Gary Johnston as he’s recruited by the elite counter-terrorism organization Team America: World Police. According to imdb.com, as the world begins to crumble around him, he must battle with terrorists, celebrities and falling in love.
The North Korean leader reportedly died Saturday.
He reportedly died of a heart attack early Saturday, December 17 in Pyongyang at the age of 69.
According to FOX, he died while on a train due to “great mental and physical strain” during a “high intensity field inspection.”
The L.A. Times, reports that his third son, Kim Jong Un, is likely to succeed him.
The Associated Press reported that North Korean state media made no official succession statements but indicated that Kim Jong Un would be in charge saying that the people and the military “have pledged to uphold the leadership of comrade Kim Jong Un” who was called a “great successor.”
