Senator Martins Congratulates State Soccer Champions

Commends Hicksville Comets on Incredible Year

Senator Jack M. Martins visited Hicksville High School to congratulate the boys soccer team for winning the school’s first state title since 1979. The boys won the State Class AA title with a 1-0 win over Webster Schroeder with Lucas Munoz scoring the game’s only goal.

In Hicksville’s road to the state championship, they had to take on perennial power Brentwood for the Long Island Championship. The Comets defeated Brentwood 2-0 behind goals by Peter DiLorenzo and Kyle Poetzch and six saves by goalie Brian McPartland.

Hicksville won the Class AA title with a 5-3 win over Great Neck South. The Comets had five different goal scorers – DiLorenzo, Poetzch, Kyle Brennan, Robert Aranov and Dimitri Partsinevelos – in the win.

For their incredible season, the Comets received individual honors as Christian Bonilla and Marcos Bonilla received All-County Honorable Mention; Kyle Brennan, Ian Gallagher, Thomas Geneva, Lucas Munoz and Brian McPartland all received All-Conference, and James Meyers received All-County/Conference Player of the Year. But no achievement was as a great as the one the team accomplished together – the state title.

Senator Martins presented each of the players with Certificates of Merit.

“I want to commend this team for its amazing achievement in showing New York State what Hicksville is all about. This is something these young men will take with them for the rest of their lives. They will stand together forever,” Martins said.
