Mineola native Kevin James will practically perfor in his backyard when he hits the stage at Westbury. Best known as the stocky and sports-obsessed delivery man on King of Queens, James’ roots in the local comedy scene date back to his early days doing stand-up at Richie Minervini’s East Side Comedy Club in the late ’80s/early ’90s. FORMATTING FOR FACEBOOK @ NASSAU COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART
Predicted to hit the 1 billion user mark this August, it was only a matter of time before Facebook infiltrated the art world. In an exhibit where social networking is mashed up with the world of contemporary art, NY artist Steven Salzman uploads his bold, digital images in the three-part horizontal rectangle format seen in the new Facebook timeline. One series composed entirely of striped plastic drinking straws meticulously cut and glued onto rectangular boards took weeks for the artist, drawing inspiration from advanced physics and astronomy, to complete. Bruce Springsteen @ Madison Square Garden Not unlike Bruce Springsteen’s last tour that had the weight of Danny Federici’s death hanging over it, this string of concert dates carries a similar specter in the shape of Clarence Clemons’ passing last year. Heading out in support of Wrecking Ball, his seventeenth studio album, Springsteen continues down the same, vitriolic outrage that percolates throughout 2002’s The Rising. Harnessing his best stadium-sized bombast, the Boss takes on the plight of the middle class, railing against an economic environment that’s proved to be fertile ground for rampant unemployment and loads of corporate avarice. This quartet of post-Clarence Garden dates will undoubtedly be as emotionally draining as Springsteen’s swing through Nassau Coliseum back in 2008. Through 4.9.—DGdR
