Joan Adami Knows Oyster Bay
Gregory Adami called to identify the mystery picture in the April 19 issue of the Enterprise Pilot. Greg guessed it was Buckingham’s, which is an incorrect answer. He was however on approximately the same street.
A few minutes later, his wife Joan Adami called with the correct answer. She said, “It’s Nobman’s window. I could tell because of all the glass.”
Interestingly, Buckingham’s is located on Audrey Avenue and Nobman’s is on East Main Street – they are actually the same physical avenue, except that Audrey Avenue was added much later in time, when Solomon Townsend had the street created, and named after his wife. Originally Oyster Bay’s Main Street took two dog leg turns around a marsh, along South Street, to tie up with what is now West Main Street.
Billy Minicozzi took a guess too, and said it was Buckingham’s the store near Taby’s. On a sports note, he wished good luck to the Jets and the Giants in the annual NFL draft to get the best college players to join their ranks.
Good guessing everyone. We were trying to take a picture of the items in Nobman’s Hardware Emporium window but the reflections of light on the glass blotted them out. We thought it would be fun to see if people could see the images of the stores across the street that were reflected in the window, to help identify the location.
