Dominick’s Italian/American Deli Diamondbacks vs. St. Johns University Rockies
Despite a cold, rainy day the Diamondbacks laughed at “Mother Nature” and came ready to play in the elements. The conditions made pitching difficult but Marc Baronci, Jackson Benjamin, Cenzo Montoni and Michael Campagnoulo braved the rain and pitched well. They were helped by outstanding defense by Thomas Rubinic who caught a long fly ball in the left field gap that saved a run from scoring, Matthew Merolla who helped end an inning by turning a sweet 3 to 1 force out and Brandon Colon who made a beautiful snag of a hit down the first baseline to prevent extra bases. The offense was quiet, but Garrett Roth, Anthony Steves, Matthew Rubinic, Liam Nihan and Nicholas Rubinic had great at bats and made the pitchers work for every out. As is customary for the Backs, they rallied in their last at bat and made the Rockies earn their win. The team hopes to restart their winning ways on Saturday.
Chico’s Bail Bonds Cubs vs. Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves
On a windy, cold night the Lower Farms saw an epic battle of the green teams. Leading the Braves’ offense was Christopher Chin, Ryan Wasserman, Brian O’Conner, Christian Sikiric and Anthony Levia with three hits each. Also contributing to the offensive attack was Kenny Hirschfeld, Edward Mauceri and Duhan Lee with two hits each. Edward made two great plays while catching by coming out from home plate to get the putouts at first. Christopher, Ryan and Kenny made some very good plays in the field. Alan Sikora and Michael Paladino also contributed to a great team effort. The Cubs were a tough opponent and also played a great game.
Hand-rolled Bagels Padres vs. Modell’s Sporting Goods Braves
The Braves took the field at Merillon field poised to play a great game for the many screaming fans. Leading the offensive charge for the Braves was Michael Paladino with five hits. Also contributing to offensive was Anthony Levia, Alan Sikora and Christopher Chin with four hits each. Christopher also laced a double that the Padres are still chasing. Ryan Wasserman, Edward Mauceri and Christian Sikiric finished off the offense attack with 3 hits each. Michael had the play of the game when he fielded a hot grounder at shortstop and then fired a one-hop strike to Ryan at first for the final out of the game. Christian and Edward also combined for a great putout at second base. Kenny, Christopher and Ryan were great as usual turning play after play out in the field. The Padres were also a great team and showed excellent sportsmanship.
Baxter’s Bolts (15) vs. Garden City Red (7)
The Bolts’ bats came back alive today against Garden City. Jillian Cooper had a big hit and two runs scored. Lauren Valencia walked twice and scored two important runs. Sarah Bush had one walk and scored a big run. Sarah also caught a good game behind the plate. Amber Roggendorf had a hit, a walk and a run scored. Gabby Ranieri had a walk and scored a run. Catie Gray walked once and scored one run. Catie also made three putouts in one inning playing second base. Haylie Lempert walked three times and scored two big runs. CeCe Schnall had three walks and scored two runs and stole home. CeCe also caught three innings behind the plate. CeCe is like a hockey goalie behind the plate, blocking home plate and making one putout at home. Kaitlyn Stoyer walked twice and played a nice second base. Samantha Grenard hit a double and scored one run. Lauren “Lights Out” Wasserman pitched two strong innings, only giving up two runs. Lauren also busted the game-wide open with a bases clearing triple. This is her second base clearing triple in two games. Daniella Connor was the starting pitcher for the game and pitched three strong innings, only giving up five runs in three innings for her second win of the season.
Baxter’s Bolts (12) All County Business Angels (11)
The Baxter’s Bolts hung on to win against their Merillon rival Angels. On a very cold night, Daniella Connor and Jillian Cooper combined their pitching skills on the mound to get the win. Jillian also scored two big runs and Daniella had a hit and scored a run. Sarah Bush had three walks and a run scored. CeCe Schnall had two walks and scored two runs. CeCe is also doing a great job catching behind the plate. Haylie Lempert walked twice and scored a run. Samantha Grenard had two walks and also did a great job behind the plate catching. Gabby Ranieri walked once and scored a run. Catie Gray walked twice and scored two big runs for the Bolts. Amber Roggendorf walked twice and scored a run. Kaitlyn Stoyer had the base hit that won the game for the Bolts.
Stutzman Funeral Home Dodgers vs Dr. Barbaro, DPM Cardinals
The Stutzman Funeral Home Dodgers had a stellar instructional baseball session on a sunny Saturday morning. After a round of team drills, the young Dodgers took to the field in a game against the Cardinals. Gina Campagnuolo, Jesse Tricario and Myles Brown had a good day at the plate and both Michael Duda and Thomas Slaski hit the ball extremely well. Aedan Cotter and Sabrina Derocchis ran the bases in a flash and Dylan Colon played the field like a pro. Cooper Sang continues to play with great enthusiasm and both Ethan Goldberg and Jeremy Chuck continue to make great strides in their game. Nicholas Gregory had a few key hits and caught the ball well. Fan favorite Ryan Louie wowed the crowd with his speed, running the bases so fast when he hit the ball. The Dodger team had a spectacular practice and game. The morning was a lot of fun and the team is learning so much. Everyone on the Dodger team is getting much better and more confident. The players are all looking forward to next week and some more baseball.
New Hyde Park Fire District Marlins vs. Virgilio Chiropractic and Wellness Center Rangers
A beautiful day for baseball saw a well-played game by both teams with excellent pitching performances by Philip Schurr, Dean Caldwell, Daniel Garcia and Allesandro Gullo, who earned the save. Michael Femia continued his golden glove season with some highlight reel plays. Justin Cosgrove kept opposing runners at bay with three solid innings behind the plate. Michael Morrone and Stephen Derocchis worked out some tough at bats and each scored a run. Anthony Schembeck, Alfred Squicciarino and Danny Simmons had some good at bats and some smart play in the field keeping the opposition off the base paths. All in all a complete total team effort has the Marlins heading in the right direction.
The Virgilio Chiropractic and Wellness Center Rangers vs. New Hyde Park Fire Department Marlins
Under blustery conditions the Marlins and the Rangers battled it out. The Virgilio Chiropractic and Wellness Center Rangers played tight defensive ball. Abidin Dauti, Jimmy Weedon, Ryan Lessing and Ben Bidner kept the Rangers in the game with stellar gloves, pulling off highlight quality plays. Virag Shah, Jack Knupfer, Matthew Farkas, James Prado and Erik Lyngstad-Hughes were trouble on the bases for the Marlins.

Sportography River Sharks (3) Vs. Hillside Beverage Cyclones (4)
In what was anticipated to be an exciting matchup between two hard-hitting and pitching-talented baseball teams, the mighty River Sharks fell behind by three runs early and despite climbing back to within one, suffered their first defeat of the season, a 4-3 loss to a tough Cyclones team at the Merillon Complex this afternoon. Pitcher John Napolitano was solid in his first start of the season with three strikeouts and one walk over three innings, but it was a three-run homer in the top of the third inning that put the River Sharks in a hole they were unable to climb out of. In his first Majors appearance on the hill, Bryan Wu turned in three solid innings of relief as he held the Cyclones to one hit while allowing no runs and striking out two. With the River Sharks down by a run, Wu led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple to deep centerfield but was stranded on third base as the game came to an end. Thomas Messina got things started offensively for the River Sharks with a two-out, line drive single in the bottom of the first. He then stole second base and came around to score on a mishandled fly ball to centerfield. Thomas Haug had another great game behind the plate as catcher as he continues to perfect his craft and build confidence in the team’s pitching staff. With two outs in the bottom of the third and his team down by three runs, Haug hit a hard ground ball to left field hoping to spark a rally, but it was not to be. Michael Mellone continued to swing a hot bat with his third hit of the young season, a line drive single to left field in the bottom of the fourth. Scott Schanter displayed more defensive excellence at second base as he just missed turning a double play in the top of the first and caught a towering fly ball in the top of the fifth. Once again, Kyle Forde flashed the leather in the field. A special thanks to call-ups Peter Carreca who hit a two-run double to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to one and Nick Levkulic who patrolled the outfield with authority.
New Hyde Park Elk’s Royals vs. Adelphi University Twins
Sunday’s match up between the New Hyde Park Elk’s Royals and the Adelphi University Twins was an offensive display for the ages. The Royals Luke Gruosso and Matt Capelle each smashed three hits. John Dunn and Jack Puvogel lead the RBIs surge with 3 a piece. In the late inning as the Twins found their stroke, Michael Merolla and Chris Zovko combined for 3 put outs to submerge the surge. Lance Yetikyel and AJ Ponzo extended their hitting streaks to an impressive 5 games. Scotty Mcllelan was a notable defensive contributor as well.
