Obituary: Emma Cordelia Guttenberger

Emma Cordelia Guttenberger (nee Woodcock) passed away April 29, 2012 at the age of 98. Emma was a lifelong resident of Huntington and Farmingdale. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Emma was predeceased by her first husband, Albert Hugo Martin and her second husband, Conrad E. Guttenberger. Her younger son, Russell Martin is deceased and her older son Kenneth Martin and his wife Mary reside in Lewisport, KY. She is also survived by a sister Alberta Canonico of Tequesta, FL; stepsons,Thomas Guttenberger and Conrad Guttenberger; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Emma was a devoted and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a longtime employee of Abraham & Strauss in Garden City. Her greatest passion was serving as a member of the volunteer committee at St. Luke’s Church and involvement with the Prime Timers. She was a devoted and selfless member of the church family, well liked and respected by all. Emma was also known for her volunteer efforts with Catholic Charities at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church. Emma’s other passion were her pets (dogs and cats) that gave her much love and companionship. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. A religious service was held May 2, Pastor Rodney Eberhardt presiding. Cremation was private. Interment of cremains will take place in the future at St. John of Jerusalem Cemetery. Donations in Emma’s memory may be sent to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (145 Prospect St. Farmingdale, NY 11735).
