McCourt & Trudden (M&T) Funeral Home recently beat Moby Drugs 16-15. There were plenty of hitting stars for M&T, but none bigger than rookie Ben D’Ampris, the Over The Hill Gang Player of the Week. D’Ampris’ go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the ninth won the game, but the blast was bittersweet.
D’Ampris ruptured his Achilles heel on the swing and will miss the remainder of the season. M&T and the entire league wish him a speedy recovery.
Early on, M&T set out to make some noise against Moby, the reigning champs. M&T jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead after the first inning, carrying a 5-3 lead trough five innings. M&T came out swinging in the sixth, putting together a total team rally of eight runs, then another one in the seventh, for a 14-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, that’s when team Moby started to put their game together by plating three runs in the bottom of their half of the seventh, trailing 14-6 heading into the top of the eighth.
Holding M&T scoreless in the top of the eighth, Moby erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 15-14 lead.
In the top of the ninth, M&T still had some fight left, Steve Kolodny led off with a walk and Big Ben D’Ampris came up and hit a two-hit run. line-drive home run over the right center field wall, bouncing off the top of the fence, giving M&T the lead and eventually a 16-15 win.
