Walk Of Love Walk-A-Thon
Ronald McDonald House of Long Island’s Annual Walk Of Love Walk-A-Thon. The three-mile walk will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Eisenhower Park. Check-in will start at 9 a.m. Senate candidate George Maragos will be on hand for the opening ceremony and Ronald McDonald will lead the walk at 10 a.m. Registration fees are as follows: $20 pre-registration; $15 children (under 12); $25 day of registration. Registration includes an event T-shirt, special raffle for preregistered walkers, entertainment, meet and greet with Ronald himself, refreshments, finish line medal and finish line celebration. Natalie Naylor presents “The Legacy of New Deal Art on Long Island” at 7:30 p.m. in the Hicksville Middle School auditorium, 215 Jerusalem Ave. Free. Call 516-538-7679. All welcome. This slide presentation focuses on surviving New Deal murals and sculptures in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Fifty murals and sculptures survive in post offices, schools, and government buildings including five in the Hicksville Middle School auditorium where the meeting is being held. HUMC Food Pantry Open
Hunger is a real issue facing our local area. In response to this need, the Hicksville United Methodist Church, 130 Old Country Rd., opened a food pantry. The pantry is open on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Non-perishable foods, paper goods and hygiene items are given to our neighbors in need. Contact us if you can help in any way.
