When Yuan heard his home had been invaded, he drowned himself in the river. Fishermen raced to save him, but couldn’t. To prevent his body from being eaten, they threw rice dumplings into the water as an offering to his spirit. Today, rice dumplings are eaten during this festival of dance, martial arts, street theater and racing. Also 8.5.

Lang returned to Nashville and assembled her first self-contained band since she recorded 1989’s Absolute Torch and Twang with the Reclines, it was natural to assume that she’d run back to the full-on country music vibe of her early career.
