Brian Entwistle has been named valedictorian and Robert Brienza has been named salutatorian of the Farmingdale High School Class of 2012.
“We are extremely proud of Brian’s and Robert’s accomplishments here in the Farmingdale School District,” said John Lorentz, superintendent of schools. “Both of these gentlemen have achieved tremendous success and have learned the necessary skills to excel in their next level of higher education. Our entire community wishes Brian and Robert the best of luck in their future endeavors and believes both students will be successful in whatever careers they elect to pursue.”
While excelling in his academic studies, Entwistle developed a true passion and talent for music. During his time at Farmingdale High School, he earned the prestigious honor to perform in the All-County Jazz Ensemble, All-State Wind Ensemble and being the drum major of the marching band.
In addition, to balancing his schoolwork and music performances, Entwistle was an active member in several school clubs and community service activities. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, Science Olympiad team, Mathletes and president of the Tri-M Honor Society.
Entwistle will attend Vanderbilt University in the fall.
Robert Brienza, according to his teachers, is an extremely motivated and focused student. He showed a deep interest in the mathematics and science fields and enjoyed overcoming obstacles with problem-solving and critical thinking techniques.
Brienza was active in the Farmingdale High School olympiad team, which finished in the top 10 at the county level and participated in the National History Bowl as well as the Farmingdale High School’s “Long Island Challenge” team.
He also enjoyed playing the baritone and was a section leader in the school’s marching band. Brienza plans to study physics at Stony Brook University.
