Award winners Jill Loveland and Anne Broderick led a large contingent of runners from Hicksville who successfully completed the 2nd annual Belmont Stakes Blue Ribbon 5K Run for Prostate Cancer on June 2.
Loveland was the first woman in the 25-29 age group to cross the finish line with a time of 23 minutes, 19 seconds. Broderick scored in 26:15 to earn the first place award in the women’s 45-49 age group.
The run was held at Belmont Park as the kickoff event for the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes on June 8, with the last 400 meters of the race being on the track, and the finish of the race being at the finish line where the Belmont Stakes was held six days later. The post-race festivities in the Grandstand of Belmont Park made it a perfect experience for one and all. A total of 475 runners and walkers finished this second annual event.
The run was hosted by Integrated Medical Foundation and its Executive Director Rhonda Samuel, with the cooperation of the New York Racing Association and the Elmont Chamber of Commerce. Race management chores were handled by the Greater Long Island Running Club.
