Movie Showing

The Plainview Library will show the Robert Redford film All Is Lost at 3 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.

Algebra Regents Review Course

The Plainview library’s Algebra Regents review course is being taught by Mrs. Grosser and will take place May 21 and May 28 from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Students are asked to bring a TI-83-84 calculator and a pen and pencil to class. Registration costs $40 at the information desk.

Global Studies Regents Review

Mr. Horun heads up the Global Studies Regents Review Course at the Plainview library from 6:45 until 8:45 p.m. Registration costs $40 at the information desk.

Movie Showing

Tobay Hadassah and the Plainview Library presents a showing of Waves of Freedom at 7 p.m. Waves of Freedom is a 52 minute documentary that retells the dramatic story of secret seagoing missions to defy the British blockade to bring Jewish refugees into the future state of Israel. Guest speaker Paul Kaye, who was on one of the ships that brought survivors to Haifa in 1947, will offer his first-hand account of this historic undertking.

Bethpage Air Show

From May 24-25, the Bethpage Air Show will be bringing back the world-renowned U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs, who are making their second appearance since 2007, and the MV-22 Osprey, which will be performing at the Bethpage Airshow for the first time. Civilian performers include the American Airpower Museum Warbirds, the GEICO Skytypers, the Miss GEICO Speedboat, Sean D. Tucker with Team Oracle, Lt. Col. John Klatt of the National Guard Reserve, Matt Chapman with Embry Riddle, David Windmiller, the Red Bull Air Force, and the John Klatt Airshows Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco Aerobatic Team, who will also be making their debut to the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. The air show will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Memorial Day weekend at Jones Beach State Park. Admission is free to the public, $10 for parking.


Monday, May 26

Memorial Day Parade

The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. at 700 Old Country Road and proceeds to the Plainview Community Park on Washington Avenue. The biggest crowds are expected to gather at the Plainview library. Plainview Fire Department, elected officials, the POB Chamber of Commerce, Plainview Water District and many POB school board members contribute to the memorial salute to the armed forces that served our country. Also participating in the parade are many local schools, sports clubs ,POB Robotic’s team, Boy and Girl Scouts and a host of other community groups. At the end of the parade there will be a commemorative wreath ceremony to honor all the veterans who valiantly risked their lives for our freedom.

Quilting Demonstration

Join Susy Rothschild at the Plainview library as she discusses the history of quilting, displays her quilts and demonstrates how quilting is done. No experience is necessary to join this seminar and learn this beautiful craft. The demonstration will be held in room B at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday Circle

The JCC presents this club, which focuses on social, recreational and educational experiences and needs of the 75-plus generation. This Wednesday Cirlce features vocalist Ricky Pen from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ricky Pen is a one of a kind entertainer, singer, musician, actress, dancer and comedienne. She has been dazzling audiences worldwide with her band or as a solo act. Ricky sings in 16 languages in a variety of vocal styles from Edith Piaf to The Beatles, from Broadway to rock, from jazz to country. Free for members and $10 for non-members. How To Be An eBay Seller

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library hosts an event at 7 p.m. to teach attendees all about selling items on eBay. Presented by Sharper Training Solutions, the seminar will show how to set up an account, how to describe for sale items, how much to charge, how to get photos online and much more. A familiarity with eBay is required, as is a comfort with computers. This class has no fee and there is no registration necessary. For more information, call 516-938-0077.

Lions Club Meeting

Serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Bethpage communities since, the Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second Wednesday of every month except July and August. The Lions Club strives to make a difference in local communities and encourages residents to come in and voice their concerns. Clutterers Anonymous

A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets at the following locations: Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave., Westbury first and third Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the School of the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd., Manhasset.
