Famous Port: Alva Belmont

Socialite and Suffragette Alva Belmont built and helped design many mansions in the early 1900s including Beacon Towers in Sands Point in 1918. The castle closed in 1925 and was sold to William Randolph Hearst, of Hearst Magazines, in 1927. It was demolished in 1945.
