Adam Katz works hard to ease the pain of families with severely ill children, recently donating $18,000 to Larger Than Life USA to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families.
“There is nothing that is more difficult than to see a child suffer,” says the Great Neck native.
Katz, who grew up in Kings Point and graduated from the Great Neck Public Schools, is founder and CEO of Talon Air, which provides private airplanes, based at Republic Airport in Farmingdale.
Larger Than Life is a non-profit organization based in Israel, that helps Israeli families with children who have cancer. Katz’s donation will help fund the Old Westbury chapter’s efforts to subsidize travel and medical treatment for such families, as well as to organize a variety of activities to brighten the children’s spirits. Great Neck also has a Larger Than Life chapter.
“Battling cancer is immensely difficult for patients and their families and it is our mission to help bring a smile to their faces throughout the treatment process,” said Avi Cohen, chairman of Larger Than Life. “We are incredibly thankful for his compassion and look forward to continuing to help families in need as we establish the Old Westbury chapter.”
Of the $18,000 donation, $8,000 was presented at the recent 2014 Larger Than Life Gala in Old Westbury to continue the growth of the charity’s newest chapter. The event honored Jordan Matalon, a seven-year-old cancer survivor who detailed his experiences battling the disease and how Larger Than Life helped him and his family. Several parents of children with cancer also spoke about the challenges they have faced and how Larger Than Life held their hands throughout the treatment process.
Said Katz: “Larger Than Life is an incredible organization that does great work,” said Katz. “And there is so much more that can be done.”
