Although it was cloudy, the weather did not keep people from gathering on Audrey Avenue last Tuesday for the season’s weekly Cruise Night, one of Oyster Bay’s most popular summer events. The street was filled with colorful cars, from V.W. Beetles to Corvettes, and old and young alike walked the street to take in the spectacle.
“My brother comes all the time but this is one of my first times coming,” said Jenny Marino of East Norwich. “I didn’t realize how big of an event this is. It’s really cool.”
Standing out on the side of the road was a shining red and black 2010 Camaro owned by James Pugliese of Massapequa. The car was beautiful on the outside but had more history to it when you went under the hood.
“This is a Dale Earnhardt Camaro made when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame,” said Pugliese. “They only made 10. This here is the fourth. It’s autographed by the whole Earnhardt family and I got a customized picture of him air brushed under the hood.”
Pugliese’s car was one of the many amazing automobiles in attendance, ranging in age and color. No matter the style, shade, or year, it is almost guaranteed that anyone would find something of interest in the 30-plus cars in attendance. With food booths, live music, and the lively atmosphere that can only be found in the heart of Oyster Bay, not even the occasional drizzle could dampen the mood of the car owners who came show off their wheels.
“I come here to show the car, that’s all,” commented Pugliese, “Otherwise, I’m the only one who sees it.”
Cruise Nights are every Tuesday night in the summer, weather permitting, and take place on Audrey Avenue by the gazebo from 5:45 to 9 p.m. For more information, go to www.visitoysterbay.com/cruise-night.html.
