Write-in candidate concerns surrounding recent village elections proved false for the three Great Neck villages that held mayor and trustee elections last Tuesday, June 17. For the villages of Great Neck, Kings Point and Lake Success each election went smoothly, with low voter turn-out and calm, easy wins.
In the Village of Great Neck, incumbent trustee Barton Sobel was returned to office with 140 votes. Trustee Norman Namdar, who was appointed as a trustee last summer, retained his seat with 143 votes.
Long-time Kings Point Mayor Michael Kalnick was re-elected with 167 votes. Trustees David Harounian and Sheldon Kwiat were also re-elected. Harounian received 170 votes and Kwiat garnered 160 votes.
For the Village of Lake Success, Mayor Ronald Cooper was returned to office with 41 votes. Incumbent trustees Fred Handsman and Steve Lam were also re-elected, Handsman with 39 votes and Lam with 41 votes. The Lake Success board of trustees also welcomed a new member, Alan Mindel, who received 38 votes.
Last June’s last-minute write-in candidates for the mayor and two trustees in the Village of Great Neck resulted in a tough beat-the-clock election day, but, in the end, the incumbents launched a tough one-day campaign and won.
The villages of Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock and Thomaston all hold elections in March.
