The 92nd Closing Exercises at The Green Vale School in Old Brookville took place on Wednesday, June 11.
On stage to present diplomas were Stephen Watters, Headmaster; Tom Marvin, Director of Upper School; Joe Donohue, President of the Board of Trustees; and Linda Gardiner, Assistant Head of School. Rev. David Ware presided at the ceremony and shared the benediction. Margaret Collett was elected by her peers to deliver a commencement speech. Students also chose John Feliciano, Latin Teacher and coach, to address the audience.
This year’s winner of the Derby Medal, the highest honor given to a graduating student, was Will Parker. Bailey Hughes was presented with the Benjamin Farnsworth VanderPoel Memorial Award. The John C. Green Bowl for highest academic average in grade 8 was awarded to Georgina Davis and Anton de Lesseps.
Anton was also awarded the Thomas M. Bancroft, Jr. Citizenship Award along with Rachel Smithie. Amelia Lewis and Caché Minott received the North Country Community Association Citizenship Award. The Buckley Award was presented to Olivia Brokaw and Margaret Collett.
The Robert Fenwick Jackson Bowl was presented to Connor Fitzgerald, Jack Golden and Rachel Smithie. Headmaster’s Awards were presented to Georgina Davis, Will Robin, Jack Niven and retiring English teacher Christi Higgins.
Class of 2014 graduates will attend the following secondary schools in September: Andover Phillips Academy, Ashley Hall School, Chaminade High School, Choate Rosemary Hall, Collegiate School, Eaglebrook School, Episcopal High School, Friends Academy, The Hotchkiss School, Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Middlesex School, Oyster Bay High School, Portledge School, The Spence School, St. Francis Prep, St. George’s School, Taft , The Brearley School, UN International School, Uniondale High School and West Hampton High School.
