AvalonBay Communities, Inc.’s plans for its newest Long Island project, AvalonBay Great Neck, moved a step closer to “shovels in the ground” with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s recent approval of the company’s plan to clean up the contaminated site. With final details to be worked out with the DEC, AvalonBay hopes to begin the remediation work before the end of 2014.

“We are looking forward to breaking ground on this exciting project,” stated Christopher Capece, AvalonBay’s senior development director. “That first step, the remediation of the site, will be a milestone for the Village of Great Neck as well as the greater Great Neck peninsula. It will mark both an end and a beginning – the end of what has been an eyesore for almost two decades, and the beginning of aligning this valuable stretch of waterfront property with the Village of Great Neck’s vision for the area, creating an enhanced streetscape and offering a luxury rental lifestyle community.”
Exterior designs for the community are still in the planning stages, with AvalonBay anticipating presenting renderings and elevations to Great Neck Village officials sometime after the summer.
Capece commented: “We are working closely with Village officials in this process. We believe everyone, including Village of Great Neck officials and residents to our neighbors in the surrounding villages and town, are going to be extremely pleased.”
AvalonBay Great Neck will feature one, two, and three-bedroom luxury apartments. The community will have a landscaped courtyard and heated pool, state-of-the-art fitness facility, beautifully appointed clubroom, controlled-access garage and a professional on-site management team to accommodate residents’ needs.
AvalonBay Communities, Inc. is in the business of developing, redeveloping, acquiring and managing high-quality apartment communities, which are located in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Pacific Northwest, and Northern and Southern California regions of the country.
