Oyster Bay is becoming a known name on the Long Island bar scene thanks to the recent success of its very own craft beer created by The Oyster Bay Brewing Company. Established in 2012 by Gabe Haim and Ryan Schlotter, two friends who quickly jumped at the opportunity to home brew and create their own beer, these Long Islanders are excited to be doing what they love while representing Oyster Bay.
“There is a lot of opportunity in Oyster Bay, being a hamlet on the water and on the North Shore, we thought it would be a perfect fit,” said Haim. “Oyster Bay is going through a resurgence and we wanted to be a draw in the town. “
They create a variety of brews such as IPA, Double IPA, Amber Ale, Stout, Hefeweizen, and Wheat Beer. Their Raspberry Wheat and Pumpkin brews allow them to experiment with different tastes and recipes.
“We take pride in creating beers that are very drinkable and not too bold in their flavor profile,” Haim says. “Craft beer is very popular right now, but a lot of non-craft beer drinkers find it hard to drink craft beer because of the strong or bold. We try and create craft beers that everyone can drink.”
Oyster Bay Brewing Company has a growing reputation, with overall positive reviews on the acclaimed business review website Yelp, and was nominated by the Best of Long Island for Best Craft Beer of 2014. They recently celebrated their one-year anniversary at their store front on South Street right next to Jack Halyard’s American Bar and Grill, which sells their beer on tap. Haim and Schlotter hope to continue doing what they love and help their business continue its growth.
“We would love to expand, but slow and steady wins the race,” commented Haim. “We have been approved by the NY State Liquor Authority to serve our beer by the pint at our tasting room, so now, customers can enjoy a pint of our brews while hanging out in the brewery. “
Oyster Bay’s specialty beer is now on tap at more than 70 Long Island bars and restaurants such as Hurricane Bar and Grill in Syosset, The Breakers in Bayville, Black Sheep Ale House in Mineola and Oyster Bay’s own Jack Halyard’s American Bar and Grill and Canterbury Ales.
