Soccer For A Cause Tournament

The Michael Magro Foundation is once again partnering with The Mastermind Unit to put on the annual Soccer For A Cause tournament. The event, which raises money for the Michael Magro Foundation, will take place at the Kevin Kolm Memorial Field in Hicksville this Saturday.

The soccer tournament is an enjoyable event, which offers participants the chance to enter in the competitive game. In years past, approximately 20 soccer teams from the tri-state area have played. All participants will be able to enjoy music and entertainment while supporting a worthy cause. Each registrant will receive a special event t-shirt. Teams can register online at http://www.mastermindunit.com/ with a $500 donation.

The annual charity event is a joint effort between friends, who grew up together and played soccer in Hicksville. Though Mastermind Unit founders Michael Stamatinos and Brian Horvath live miles away, they travel back every year to organize the event together and give back to their hometown community.

“Coming back home every year and working together with friends to make this tournament happen is something I’m proud of,” says Stamatinos. “Donating our time and talent to such a special cause gives me a feeling that is indescribable and being able to do it with lifelong friends is even more meaningful. Giving back to a community that has given us so much sets a standard and paves the way for others to follow this example.”

The Michael Magro Foundation was established in 2005 to assist children with cancer and their families in the Hicksville community and the surrounding New York area. The foundation also supports children in the Winthrop Pediatric Specialty Center experiencing other types of chronic disease.
