Andrew Greiche, a senior at Herricks High School, has been selected as a member of the 2014 NAfME All-National Honor Choir sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. Greiche will join more than 670 of the most musically talented and skilled high school students in the United States to perform at a gala concert on Oct. 29 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.
“I am looking forward to singing among the countries most talented vocalists,” he said. “It is truly an honor to be selected to participate in such a fantastic opportunity. I am eager to meet new friends and make music with them.”
Greiche will sing under the baton of one of the most prominent choral conductors in the United States, Edith Copley. He is among 55 students from New York State to be selected for the National Mixed Choir of over 350 singers. Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and competed against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles.
At Herricks, Greiche is a member of the chamber choir and Herricks 16, as well as having had leading roles in all school musical and drama productions from grades 6-12. He is also an active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the Herricks STAC program.
Greiche has also participated in the All State Mixed Choir as a junior and the All County Mixed Choir since fifth grade and has been recognized as a merit scholar from Long Island Arts Alliance.
“Andrew is exceptionally talented and very hard working,” Chorus teacher Louise O’Hanlon said. “He is goal oriented and never stops pushing himself. At the same time, he is humble and driven.”
The All-National Honors Ensembles, consisting of a concert band, symphony orchestra, mixed chorus and jazz ensemble, are organized by members of the National Association for
Music Education. The concert band and symphony orchestra will each have approximately 150 instrumentalists, the jazz ensemble will have 20 instrumentalists, and the mixed chorus will have approximately 350 vocalists.
