Plainedge Elementary School Teacher Honored With Award

Lee Ann Cherpak, a Reading Specialist at Eastplain Elementary School has been honored by the NYS Elementary Classroom Teachers Association (NYSECTA) with the Joy of Effort Award.

NYSECTA is a statewide professional development organization whose membership consists of Pre-K to 6th grade teachers from across the State of New York.

Cherpak received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Dowling College and Master’s degree in Reading from Long Island University. She has been a teacher at Eastplain Elementary School for the past 26 years.

This is not the first honor for Cherpak, whose influence has been recognized 17 times. She is also the recipient of the Woman of Substance: Excellence in Academia and the Elementary Level Honorary Life Member of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers.
“She nurtures her students and fosters growth and learning in each child that enters her classroom,” said Cherpak’s principal Emily O’Brien. “She has a warm caring heart and a spirit that emulates an optimistic and gentle nature. She has truly made a difference in the hearts and minds of our entire school community.”
