A 56-year-old mechanic for the U.S. Post Office died after a colleague started driving the truck the victim was working underneath at a garage in Hicksville on Wednesday morning.
Nassau County police said David Zimmerly of Lindenhurst was doing repair work at the shop on Ludy Street when a second worker, unaware Zimmerly was under the truck, got in and moved it, running the victim over at 9:32 a.m.
The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The other worker, 54-year-old Jacob Kuri Jr. of Sayville, was not charged, according to Homicide Squad detectives.
The truck was placed out of service and will be re-inspected.
