A Deer Park man was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after he crash his car, killing his 25-year-old passenger in Melville early Sunday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Daniel Moreira, 27, was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on the Long Island Expressway when his vehicle rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma near Exit 49 at 3:45 a.m., police said.
His passenger, Ismelda Rodriguez, of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moreira was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.
The otherdriver of the Tacoma, 60-year-old Terry Doughan of Kings Park, was not injured.
Moreira was charged with driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned on a later date.
Vehicular Crime Unit detectives impounded both vehicles, are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call them at 631-852-6555. All calls will be kept confidential.
