In an effort to safeguard senior citizens, Supervisor Kate Murray and Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad are bringing the town’s popular Senior I.D. Program to the Seaford Public Library (2234 Jackson Avenue) on Friday, March 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be hosted by New York State Senator Michael Venditto.
Murray and Ahmad encourage senior citizens to participate in this popular program, where they will receive a free wallet-sized identification card that includes contact information, medications, allergies and other related details that could assist emergency personnel if a medical situation arises.
“We’re committed to providing top-notch programs and services for senior citizens as they enjoy their golden years here in the Town of Hempstead,” said Murray. “These identification cards help safeguard senior citizens by providing responders with vital information in the event of a medical emergency.”
“I’m proud to work with Supervisor Murray to offer this free service to our senior citizens,” said Ahmad. “The I.D. card will certainly be a helpful tool to assist seniors during emergencies and also provide them with an additional form of identification.”
While the I.D. can be useful during medical emergencies, it can also serve as a non-driver form of identification for senior discounts and other uses.
“What’s more, our senior identification card can be helpful for a variety of purposes,” said Murray. “Show your I.D. card and take advantage of great discounts available to senior citizens.”
The Senior I.D. Card Program is administered by town staff, utilizing five computers and pre-printed forms. Experts from the Town Clerk’s Office provide instruction, answer questions and assist senior citizens in completing forms. Participants will be furnished with a laminated wallet-sized I.D. card, as well as a larger 8-1/2 x 8 document that can be displayed on the refrigerator door. Hempstead Town provides the service free-of-charge, and no records are kept by the town once an I.D. card has been created.
“We’re happy to provide this free service to our golden age neighbors,” said Murray. “There’s nothing more convenient than having all of your pertinent information in the palm of your hand, especially in the event of an emergency.”
