A Brentwood man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly training roosters to fight after Suffolk County police said investigators seized 45 of the birds from the suspect’s home.
When authorities executed a search warrant at Reynaldo Bonilla’s house on 4th Street at 6 a.m., police said they also found cocaine, marijuana and evidence that the roosters were being trained for fighting.
The 37-year-old suspect was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana and training an animal to fight, a felony.
The Suffolk County SPCA, which joined police in the raid, removed the roosters from the property, authorities said.
Bonilla is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
