Carle Place Celebrates A Century

The tight-knit community of Carle Place will celebrate its 100 year anniversary this weekend, and the hamlet is celebrating in style with a four-day carnival at Carle Place Middle/High School.

“Carle Place has a rich tradition and it’s a close knit community. Given that its the 100th year of Carle Place being known as Carle Place, we felt it was suitable to throw a grand celebration,” said Carle Place Civic Association president John Hommel.

The Carle Place Civic Association and a 100-year anniversary celebration committee have spent the last two years organizing the anniversary festivities, which kicked off in March with a party at Mannings Pub and Grill, an event that drew almost 3,000 attendees.

From Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25, residents from Carle Place and beyond are invited to enjoy live music from local artists, carnival rides, food, games and more.

Every night of the festival has a theme. Friday, May 22 from 5 to 11 p.m. will be “Go Frogs Night,” and will feature performances from several Carle Place students. Saturday, May 23 will be the carnival and fireworks show from noon to 11 p.m. Sunday, May 24 will be “Alumni Night” from noon to 10 p.m. On Monday, May 25, Carle Place will hold its annual Memorial Day parade, followed by an “Honor Our Veterans” themed carnival from noon to 5 p.m.

Anniversary celebrations will continue on later this year, with a movie night in the park in August and the return of the Frog Hollow Frolics in late November or early December.

“The Frog Hollow Frolics is a tradition Carle Place used to have for many years. Different groups in the community would get together and make up their own skits on stage,” Hommel said. “We’re going to bring it back for one more time.”
