A shark sighting prompted lifeguards to order all swimmers out of the water at Tobay Beach just east of Jones Beach State Park on Thursday morning, authorities said.
Nassau County police helicopter pilots who responded to the initial report confirmed seeing two six-foot-long sharks swimming about 15 feet from the shoreline heading eastbound toward Gilgo Beach shortly before noon, authorities said.
Once the all clear was given, the swimmers were allowed back in the water. There were no reported injuries.
