An eyewitness helped aid in the arrest of two Syosset teens accused of robbing a Carle Place teenager in broad daylight on Friday, Aug. 14 at 1:18 p.m.

According to detectives Mario Mayancela, 16, and Gregorio Garcia, 16, approached a 14-year-old female victim who was sitting on the steps in front of Carle Place Farm at 514 Westbury Ave. and began harassing her and asking to use her cell phone. The defendants grabbed the victim’s purse and pulled her to the ground, dragging her across the sidewalk several feet until the purse strap broke. The defendants fled the scene on foot with the purse. A male witness, who attempted to chase the defendants’, was able to direct police to their last known location.

Undercover police officers were able to locate and arrest the defendants on Broadmoor Lane/Bert Ave. 30 minutes later. The victim’s purse, containing cash, was recovered.

The victim, who sustained abrasions and contusions to her upper back, was treated at the scene by Nassau County AMT.  No other injuries were reported.

Mayancela and Garcia are each being charged with two counts of second degree Robbery. Bail was set for Mayancela and Garcia at $35,000 each. Their next appearance is on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
