The inaugural classic car meet up in the Village of Westbury was a success, drawing almost two dozen cars to Parking Field 4.
Westbury resident and event organizer Tom Verni said part of his motivation for starting the weekly event was to draw people to the village and its businesses. Modeled after similar classic car meet-ups in surrounding communities such as Oyster Bay, the meet-up allows automobile enthusiasts a chance to not only show off their vehicles, but spend time with others who share a love of classic cars.
“It was very well received,” said Verni. “Everyone who came voiced an interest to come back and spread the word and bring friends.”
Meet-ups are scheduled to take place every Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. until the end of fall, and Verni is hoping it will grow as word spreads.
“It’s going to take a while because it’s new and not many people know about it, but I think it’s going to be good,” Verni said, noting that once the Oyster Bay meet-up closes after Labor Day they might get a crowd big enough to fill the parking lot. “There’s usually nothing going on during the middle of the week, which gives us an advantage and level of exclusivity.”
The next classic car meet-ups are on Aug. 26 and Sept. 2. For more information email tom@tomverni.com.
