Port business donates proceeds to breast cancer research
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Dan’s Dog Walking and Pet Sitting is proud to announce its Second Annual “Paws for a Cause” Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser. As part of its efforts to raise money for breast cancer research, the company will be donating five percent of profits for the entire month of October to First Company Pink, a nonprofit organization with a commitment of supporting life-saving research and spreading breast cancer awareness.
In addition to providing pet care services to the community, Dan’s Dog Walking and Pet Sitting’s CEO and Founder Daniel Reitman has made giving back a cornerstone of the company’s mission.
“It feels good to be able to do this, and to allow my clients to take part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and by having our staff members care for their pets,” said Reitman.
Reitman started Dan’s Dog Walking and Pet Sitting six years ago while working at Manhasset Animal Hospital. Since then, it has grown to 20 employees. “I decided to start raising money for breast cancer awareness after a very close family member was diagnosed years ago.”
He continued, “I have seen how far reaching the impact of breast cancer can be especially in our community…it…felt like the right thing to do.”
Recent studies show that the Long Island population has a breast cancer incident rate much higher than the statewide average. This Second Annual Fundraiser will support the cause in the Nassau and Suffolk community.
Last year, “Paws for a Cause” raised nearly $1,500. This year, Dan and his team hope to raise $2,500. By using Dan’s Dog Walking and Pet Sitting, clients indirectly donate to First Company Pink during October. Additional donations can be made at www.crowdrise.com/pawsforacausebreastc/fundraiser/danielreitman or by purchasing a limited edition Paws for a Cause T-shirt at www.booster.com/second-annual-paws-for-a-cause-breast-cancer-research-fundraiser, in which all proceeds go to First Company Pink.
“My clients’ responses…have been overwhelmingly positive,” Reitman said. “It is nice to know that we aren’t just raising money, but also enabling every single client to contribute to the cause simply by using our services.”
Reitman’s company serves the North Shore of Long Island and select areas of Connecticut. Services include 10-, 30-, and 50-minute GPS-verified dog walks, in-home overnight pet sitting, cat visits, home security checks, kitchen replenishment, medical visits and pet transportation. Each client gets a custom plan that is implemented by a dedicated team of pet care specialists who have undergone thorough background checks, intensive training and are all fully bonded and insured.
