(Dec. 4, 1924 to Sept. 20, 2015) Born in 1924 in New York, Sr. Eleanor Nolan (Sr. Mary Catherine of the Sacred Heart) entered the Little Sisters of the Assumption in 1955. She made her final vows in France in 1964. She earned her RN from Misericordia Hospital and her BS in nursing from Boston College. In her 60 years of religious life Sr. Eleanor served in New York City and Newburgh, NY, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
Sr. Eleanor is survived by her brother, Robert and wife Theresa; Brother-in-law, Richard; Sister-in-law, Valerie; Nieces, Irene, Christine, Patricia Ann, Kathleen, Mary Ellen, Theresa; nephews, Richard, James; and numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Sr. Eleanor is predeceased by her brothers, Patrick Timothy and James, Jeremiah Jay; sister, Dorethy; and niece, Patricia Ann.
Sr. Eleanor brought many gifts to her life as a Little Sister. Her love of family, first instilled by her own family, motivated all her interactions and her commitment to families living in poverty. She had a special love for children. She was part of a team that researched and established the first rural ministry in Kentucky. She served on the leadership team of the Little Sisters offering her insight, capacity to look to the future, and a great sense of humor in tough times.
She will be deeply missed by her loving family, friends and sisters.
Visitation was on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Marie Esther Health Care Center, 720 Boston Post Rd., Marlborough, Mass. 01752. A funeral Mass followed at the health care center.
