Firefighter, police officer, husband, father and friend.
The officers and men of Company #2 Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department regret to announce the untimely passing of Firefighter Charles “Chuck” Karen. Chuck joined Company #2 on Aug. 8, 1991. Valiantly, he served the community of Manhasset for over 24 years. Professionally, he was a police officer with the New York Police Dept. 73 Precinct and responded to the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. He spent tireless hours at Ground Zero as well as the Fresh Kills site, sifting through wreckage. Three years ago, Chuck was diagnosed with cancer which he contracted from his response. He never gave up his fight and he never asked for assistance. As a matter of fact, he was more interested in still helping others regardless of his deteriorating health.
On Nov. 4, Chuck lost his battle to cancer. Chuck leaves behind his wife Tina and two young boys, Charles, age 9, and Dominic, age 4. Everything he did was for his family and friends. It was his nature to selflessly help others.
The men of Company 2 are now asking for your help. The company has created a “Go Fund Me” to establish a college fund for his young boys. The request your help to find it in your heart during this holiday season to help a family that has given so much to the community.
