On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the North Hempstead Country Club held its annual Christmas Luncheon. The event was a fundraiser for the Family & Children’s Association located in Mineola. The women’s committee under the leadership of Gloria Grafer did a magnificent job of creating a special winter wonderland of baskets and raffles.
Guests were welcomed with colored champagne in flutes to toast in the holidays. With the vibrant colors of red, green, white and blue, the ladies enjoyed the visual delights before them.
The atmosphere and decorations were classic and the attention to detail was incredible, right down to having the napkins folded into miniature trees wrapped with a delightfully colored bracelet as a holiday gift for attending the event. The live centerpieces that adorned each table were exquisite, with crimson red roses and white chrysanthemums and a dash of fresh pine in a red crystal vase.
The numerous vendors were spread out throughout the various rooms of the main house, making it the perfect place to do some holiday shopping.
The charity, Family & Children’s Association, has pioneered an innovative solution to help transform at-risk youth into self-supporting adults. The program adheres to strength-based protocols that have proven effective in helping young people who are dealing with homelessness, poverty, foster care transitions and other challenges. The association also safeguards seniors and strengthens family. According to Grafer, this is the second year the charity has been the recipients of this fundraiser.
Though the day was damp and gray, the enthusiasm and spirit made the event warm and inviting for all that attended.
