Winner of initial election and recount Angela Lawlor Mullins.

The results of the Dec. 8 election for police commissioner, which found Angela Lawlor Mullins as the winner, were contested by candidate Steve Kaplan.

Steve Kaplan retained Fred Pollack as his election attorney. Mullins retained Grant Lally to represent her at the recount.

A meeting was held on Dec. 14 at North Hempstead Town Attorney Richard Finkel’s office. All three candidates—Angela Lawlor Mullins, Ronald Rochester and Steve Kaplan—were present. Attorneys Finkel, Lally, Pollack and Chief James Salerno were also present.

The absentee ballots were reviewed and examined. After counting the absentee ballots, the results were the same as the previous election, with Mullins the winner. The number of votes changed slightly:

Mullins       322
Kaplan       295
Rochester  157

“I look forward to increasing police relations with all members of the Port Washington community,” said Mullins. “I have budgeted funding for the year 2016, to provide diversity training for all members of the district, including the Board of Commissioners.”

She added, “There is much to do, let’s move ahead. Happy Holidays to all.”
