While every part about the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is breathtaking from start to finish, these are a few of the numbers that audiences have come to know and love.
Parade of the Wooden Soldiers
Everyone knows this one. The Rockettes march in a line and are knocked down by the boom of a cannon. A domino effect ensues and topples one Rockette over another in showstopping linear fashion. This classic number has been a part of the show since 1933.
New York at Christmas
There’s no better place in the world than New York City at Christmastime, and the Rockettes agree. Dozens of dancers board an iconic red tour bus and travel the city while another number sends the girls dancing through Times Square. It’s numbers like these that inspired the New York Spectacular.
Rag Dolls
This year, Radio City brings back the rag doll scene, which sees dozens of rag dolls come to life in Santa’s workshop as they dance around letter blocks, spelling out “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
12 Days of Christmas
Who doesn’t love a dancing candy cane? One of the most traditional and notable Rockette costumes is the candy-cane motif uniform designed by Frank Krenz. Did you know that each tap shoe is fitted with microphones to maximize the tapping sound?
Santa’s Reindeer
While Santa may only need eight reindeer and Rudolph pulling his sleigh, when he comes to Radio City, he needs 36. The Rockettes don jingle bells and antlers as they pull Santa in his sleigh of toys, ushering in the arrival of Christmas.
