A Port Jefferson Station man was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after he drove the wrong way on Sunrise Highway and caused a fatal crash in Yaphank on Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.
Christopher O’Brien, 54, was driving his Audi A4 eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 27 when his car crashed head-on with a westbound Toyota Corolla just east of Horseblock Road at 5:37 a.m., police said.
The victim, 57-year-old Thomas D’Eletto of Aquebogue, was pronounced dead at the scene.
O’Brien was charged with driving while intoxicated and was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Center in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He will be arraigned at a later date.
