To heighten the magic of the holiday season, Residents For A More Beautiful Port Washington (Residents) Model Blocks Committee decorated its Peter and Jerry Dejana Family Foundation Garden at the Long Island Railroad Station on Main Street. The project features a 16-foot holiday tree with ornaments, lights and presents at the base, a decorative white picket border fence anchoring the walkway, a wayfinding “Happy Holidays” sign and two lit up birch trees.
The project was generously funded by Residents Vice President of Finance and Model Blocks Façade Aid Chair Annette Oestreich. “I wanted to make people smile,” said Oestreich. “It makes me so happy to see families stop and take a picture in front of the tree.” Residents Model Blocks committee is dedicated to creating a vibrant and more walkable downtown. Residents worked with two local florists: S. F. Falconers Florist and Port Washington Florist and Designer Michelle Shain of Headlights Creative. The Town of North Hempstead Port Washington Parking District assisted with all aspects of the project.
