More than 60 commercial real estate brokers and developers, local chamber of commerce leaders and business owners recently attended the first ever What to Know Before Opening or Expanding a Business workshop at the Clubhouse at Harbor Links in Port Washington.
The event was hosted by the Town of North Hempstead’s Building Department and Business and Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC), and was cohosted by Long Island Business, represented by Web Editor Adina Genn. The program featured remarks from BTDC Executive Director Kim Kaiman as well as Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth.
“We never forget that it is our businesses that make our communities successful and vibrant,” said Bosworth. “And while we cannot simply hand you the keys to a new store or give you a free month’s rent, we are here today to make your path as easy as possible, by answering some of the most common questions and helping you navigate around the more common pitfalls.”

Presentations were also made by Kathleen Deegan Dickson, Esq. who discussed when you should retain a legal professional, Town Deputy Building Commissioner Glenn Norjen, Town Planning Commissioner Michael Levine and Town Building Commissioner John Niewender.
The seminar was sponsored by AVZ Certified Public Accountants; Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo & Terrana, LLP, Counselors at Law; Janney Montgomery Scott LLC; LIDC/LISBAC; National Grid; PSEG Long Island and Santander Bank.
