New York State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel has decided not to seek re-election. Ms. Schimel, who has served eight years in the Assembly representing the 16th Assembly District, will serve out her term through December 31, 2016.
“The Assembly is the best job I have ever had. I am leaving in love with a great institution— ‘The People’s House’. It has been a privilege to serve my wonderful, enlightened, and engaged Assembly District. I look forward to the next chapter in my life.”
Prior to the Assembly, Ms. Schimel was elected Town Clerk of North Hempstead for seven years.
Michelle Schimel was born in Brooklyn. She currently resides in Port Washington but was formerly a resident of Great Neck since1982. She has two sons, Alex and Spencer. Before being elected to public office, Michelle was a physical therapist and certified wound care specialist at North Shore University Hospital. From 1982-1994 Michelle was vice president of a fashion accessories firm in Manhattan. She is an alumna of the University of Pennsylvania.
