Knit and Crochet
Come knit and crochet with Angie Gallo from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Plainedge Library community room. Must register. A program fee of $5 cash or check made payable to Plainedge Public Library is required. Bring your own project or choose from the many instruction books available. Bring knitting worsted weight yarn and a #9 needle for knitting or an H or I hook for crocheting.

Movie: Pawn Sacrifice
The Bar Harbour auditorium will host a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie Pawn Sacrifice. In a true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges Soviet Grandmaster Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber) in an intense battle of wills at the 1972 World Chess Championship. This gripping film chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world. Starring Tobey Maguire, Liev Schreiber and Lily Rabe (2014; PG-13, 2 hrs).

Yoga
Using Hatha Yoga postures, breathing techniques and meditative practices, open  the body and mind to a new sense of wellness, release, and awareness. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat. Tech Tutors     
Adults, bring in any mobile device (iPad, iPhone, Nook, Kindle, Android Phone, tablet, etc.) for a tutoring session and demonstration by local tech-savvy teens. Teens, earn community service credit by helping adults learn the in’s and out’s of their devices. Adults and teens must register online, in person or by phone. Adopt-A-Battalion Soldier’s Drive
Come help put care packages together for troops overseas. Our volunteers sort, pack and ship items to send to the troops. Looking for personal care items, seasonings and hot sauces and items other than candy. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Island Knight of Columbus Council, 2 Eastgate Rd., Massapequa Park.

Meditation
Meditation quiets and calms an over-stimulated and distracted mind. Mediation relaxes the meditator, enhancing over-all well-being and deepens insight and opens you to higher consciousness. This introductory class uses different meditative techniques and open discussion. Registration is required. $15 for all sessions with a fee due at registration. Landmarks and Historic Sites of Long Island
Presented by Ralph Brady at 2 p.m., come hear a light history commentary and view an extensive collection of current and vintage photographs as Brady outlines the history of 40 historic sites around Long Island. In the Bar Harbour auditorium.

Volunteers Needed
The Plainedge Public Library is looking for Plainedge School District volunteers in grades six and up for children’s crafts/activities during the 2015-16 school year. All applicants are accepted into a pool of eligible volunteers who will be called upon from time to time during the year. Application packets are now available from the children’s services staff.
