Arhaus will be opening its doors to the public on Friday, Feb. 26, to bring its handcrafted furnishings to Port Washington. The retailer will open its doors to a freestanding building on the former site of Port Motors, located at 15 Port Washington Blvd. The building is two stories with an attached greenhouse connected via portico for a combined footprint of 19,750 square feet to showcase furniture and accessories for every style and every home.
The first Long Island location for Arhaus is one of eight other freestanding stores; traditionally, the retailer sets up shop in upscale lifestyle centers.
“This is an attractive location for us,” said John Reed, founder and CEO of the privately held company. He and his father opened the first store in 1986 and next year, Arhaus will celebrate a major milestone—30 years in the business. “Not only was the property the perfect location for us in the area, but the original building was rich in history and we wanted to preserve some of this to enhance the overall customer experience.”
The building, former home to Port Motors, was stripped down to expose brick that dates back to the 1920s.
“The brick was the exterior of an indoor tennis court on the Pratt estate in Long Island. After WWII and a shortage of steel in the U.S., the building was moved brick-by-brick to the 15 Port Washington Blvd. property and used to build a showroom and service center for the Lincoln Mercury franchise owned by my father, Bernard Cohen, and Mars Barron,” said Michael Cohen. It was called Port Motors.” Arhaus is leasing the building from Cohen.
The building will be used to showcase Arhaus’ lifestyle vignettes, while the newly attached orangery with a combination of French- and English-inspired parterres will be used to merchandise the retailer’s outdoor furnishings and seasonal décor.
The store in Roslyn will be the retailer’s third location in New York. Arhaus opened a store in the city’s chic Meatpacking District in 2011 and has a store in Rochester at the newly developed Armory. The Armory location opened last year; previously the store was located at Eastview Mall.
At the time of opening of Arhaus Manhasset, the retailer will have 61 store locations in the U.S. The home furnishings retailer also sells at its e-commerce site, www.arhaus.com.
