Carle Place Key Club raises money for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Carle Place High School’s Key Club recently hosted its eighth annual Student-Teacher Fashion Show. More than 100 Key Club members and teachers participated in the event, which raised $10,211 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of sophomore Devin Talt, who has cystic fibrosis. The Key Club puts on a fashion show fundraiser every year, with proceeds from each event going towards a different charity. Senior Thomas Vestuto, Key Club president, said raising money for a Carle Place student set this year apart.
“The atmosphere of this year’s event was greater than ever before,” Vestuto said. “This year, the person we were fundraising for is a current student at the high school. Many students know him but don’t know his story. It was great to have the opportunity to raise money for such an incredible young man.”
Models strutted their stuff down the runway modeling attire from Camille La Vie, Men’s Wearhouse—Carle Place, Lord Taylor—Manhasset, BASS and Dress Barn—Carle Place. Female models donned professional hair and makeup, which was provided by Studio Novelle and parent Kerry Strassenreiter.
Nicholas Antoniou, Key Club treasurer, said many vendors, families and faculty members also donated prizes, baskets and gift cards.
“The bulk of the money we raised was from the raffles,” Antoniou said. “Raising over $10,000 is an incredible accomplishment for such a small town and it shows how tight-knit of a community we live in. Every fashion show we’ve had has been a success but this one was different in that it really effected not only our community, but our school.”
Talt said it was nice to know that so many people who didn’t even know him came together to support him and the Foundation.
“It was really nice that students cared that much. There were people that didn’t even know me and they still came,” Talt said. “It was an incredible experience.”
